The increase in life expectancy is accompanied by an increase in those who are dependent in old age. This fact emphasises the need for research to evaluate the demand of those people in the coming decades.
Whilst in Spain present systems to attend dependence in old age do not respond to demand, other countries such as France, Austria and Germany have approved insurance specifically for this demand.
The response to dependence in old age, given the complexity of its causes, should be based on innovative financial and legal instruments, as those used at present are unsuitable. The objectives of the project are the analysis of supply and demand and the design of alternatives.
